Midwifery Care
Many expectant mothers want a provider who offers a more personal approach to having a baby. That’s why our certified nurse-midwives establish a one-on-one relationship with our patients and their families. We believe that pregnancy and birth are a normal process in a woman’s life, and we guide you and your family through pregnancy, labor and delivery, as well as helpful preparation for parenting. Our midwives also provide preventive well-woman care to women seeking gynecological care throughout their lifetime.
Modern midwives
Nurse-midwives have been practicing in the U.S. since the 1920s. And today, certified nurse-midwives are registered nurses who have graduated from a nurse-midwifery masters-degree program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME) and have passed a national certification exam. They are trained and capable of providing individualized care during pregnancy and birth, from one that’s medication-free to a birth that uses medications and anesthesia.
Peace of mind
You will come to our office to see your midwife for all prenatal care visits. And when it comes time to deliver, your midwife will oversee the birth process at Durham Regional Hospital. Women’s Health Alliance has physicians on call with our midwives 24 hours a day, and they are both up-to-date on the condition of each patient. Certified midwifery care, similar to care by a nurse practitioner, is typically covered under most health care insurance plans. And our practice participates with most health insurance plans for Durham and for Chapel Hill.
