Mental Health Counseling

For patients with mental health needs, we have our very own Cheryl Carroll, CNM, PHPNP, MSN. Shortly after entering the midwifery field, Cheryl observed that when patients suffered depression or mental illness, the emotional pain interfered with what could be an otherwise simple prenatal and birth process. Cheryl wanted to be professionally equipped to facilitate a woman’s ability to move through and past negative patterns and emotional upheavals that consumed a great deal of their lives. To enhance her ability to serve Durham Women’s Clinic patients, she pursued and received certification for adult psychiatric mental health.

Cheryl is available to see all patients with mental health needs. She is an adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who has advanced education in assessing mental health needs of individuals, families, groups, and communities. Cheryl is able to assess, diagnose, and treat psychiatric disorders or potential for such disorders, including prescribing medication and administering psychotherapy.
